The fourth edition of the Tunisie Challenge has lived up to expectations with five long, demanding and very intense stages.
The fourth edition of the Tunisie Challenge has concluded its final stage in Zarzis, near the island of Djerba, with the participation of seventy teams and after five intense stages in which the sand and dunes have been the main protagonists. With high temperatures and very soft sand, the mainly renovated route has taken a toll on both the participants and their vehicles.
After four editions, the Tunisie Challenge has become a reference event within the amateur motor competitions held in Tunisia and this is reflected in the progressive increase in participants. The adventure has been exciting, spectacular and very demanding, combining the most varied types of track, with mountain areas, sand and different levels of dunes for all categories.
The Tunisian Minister of Tourism, M. Sofiène Tekaïa, presided over the start of the race at Cap Angela, the northernmost point of the African continent, and was accompanied by the President of the Tunisian Automobile Federation, who also joined us for the final awards ceremony. Collaboration with the FTA began right from the first edition and the relationship allows greater facilities to be offered to the participants, who have been able to live another great experience.
The fourth edition began with a spectacular stretch along the beach just after leaving Cap Angela, near Bizerte. The raid category vehicles could savour their first dunes right from day one, before setting off on a journey to Kairouan, the end point of the first stage and one of the capitals of Islam. This Tunisie Challenge also had stage finishes in Tozeur, Douz, Zmila Camp (where the traditional bivouac was located) and Zarzis, where the race ended with another 30km. stretch along the coast.
After an intense and tough week, in which the tough terrain put the participant’s skills to the test, the teams were able to relax by the Mediterranean Sea before setting off on their way home. The atmosphere was exceptional throughout the week and lived up to their expectations. The Tunisie Challenge has established itself as a tough event, which required the maximum effort from everyone and didn’t allow them to let their guard down until the end, but the final impressions have been very positive, both for the organisation and for the competitors.
